Into Each Life...Some Rain Must Fall
As I am working on my Master’s degree, I am a nanny. One of the kids that I nanny is a seven-year-old boy who has a million ideas and a million questions. A few weeks ago, we had a few perfectly perfect sunny park days. Last week, however, it began to rain… a lot.
He asked me why it had to rain so much in springtime and couldn’t just be nice out. An understandable frustration for a little boy when the rain ruins a park day.
Sometimes we assume that kids don’t want the full answer, but when I was a kid, I loved when my dad gave me the real, often very long, answer. SO, I told him that, even though it’s frustrating, we need the rain in the springtime because it waters all the plants that we need for the rest of the year. I told him that the rain in the springtime prepares the ground for the heat of the summer, and without the springtime rain, it would not only cause the flowers not to bloom—it would affect the crops and the food chain.
He listened intently. I taught him the saying, “April showers bring May flowers,” even though it’s still March.
We endure the rainy days knowing that they are so desperately important for our survival, and we know that if there is an excess of it, it will lead to thriving and abundance.
The same God who created the physical seasons created the emotional and spiritual.
I wonder where in my life I have despised the rain because I forgot what it would bring. What sorrow have I staved off because I was sure no good could come of it? Where in your life is the rain pouring… and it is unto something good?
What if we had faith that spring really was on its way—that the rain was for our good and would lead to thriving and abundance?
If the rain does not return back to heaven but accomplishes what the Lord sends it out to do… so does His Word.
Nothing is wasted.
